In conclusion, chariot racing was one of the most popular olympic sport. Chariot racing was also one of the most dangerous sports ever. Most chariot racers died young from getting dragged to death. Chariot racers usually carried a knife with them just in case if they get dragged, they can cut the rope off their hands. Chariot racers usually got injured, by having another chariot entering their lane, that usually caused a collision. Chariot races were 7 laps long. Chariot races took place in the hippodrome. The hippodrome could seat 100,000 people. Thats bigger than most arenas nowadays! The hippodrome had different post marking where the coming up turns were. The best horse is usually the Funalis. The funalis was the horse on the extreme left. This horse was made mostly for speed and agility. Chariot racing uplifted a strong, enthusiastic, rowdy and wild crowd. Sometimes the crowd would get so into it, that after the race, the opposing crowd would get into fights. I hope all of this information was very useful, and fun to read. Adios, and have a great life!
Like I Said before the races were held in a specially built arena, called the Hippodrome. The Hippodrome had posts that marking when turns were coming up. The hippodrome could fit 100,000 people! The races were always one lap around a tree stump. Gaius Appuleius Diocles won the most amount of prize money for winning Chariot Races. Gaius won 35,863,120 dollars in prize money. He was one of the most famous and richest chariot racers of all time. Diomedes and Menelaus were also very famous racers. The team of horses was called the auriga. The best horse was the funalis. The funalis was on the extreme left side of the racer. The horses were there mostly for speed. A two horse team is a biga, a three horse team is called a triga and a four horse team is called a quadriga. Those were the horse teams.
